We don’t necessarily need lawyers to run Ghana football – Rev Osei Kofi

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Black Stars legend, Rev. Osei Kofi, has advised Ghanaians to pick lessons from former Ghana FA Chief Kwesi Nyantakyi’s horrible administration and never appoint a lawyer to head football in the country.

He argues that the former CAF first vice president despite being a lawyer failed on several times to properly interpret the rules and regulations governing football under his tenure.

According to  the “wizard dribbler” as known in Ghana during his football heydays, the interpretation of football rules and regulations are not mostly done by Lawyers and that there are ordinary persons who can also do better interpretations of the laws governing the game.

The legend debates that Kwesi Nyantakyi during his thirteen [13] years in office, destroyed local football entirely and only championed a course to enrich himself hence the need to ignore lawyers and appoint competent people to administer the activities of Ghana football.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, resigned from his post as President of the Ghana Football after the highest football governing body [FIFA] handed him Ninety [90] days ban to stay away from all football activities after being captured in the Anas Aremeyaw number 12 expose.

Football in the country came to a halt in June after government applied to an Accra High Court to dissolve the local football governing body claiming the entire football structure was engaged in corruption following the Anas investigation without justifying it claims.

But Government has agreed with world football governing body FIFA, to stop all process it initiated to dissolve the Ghana Football Association in the aftermath of the corruption exposé in the country’s football administration.

The two parties have however initiated a move to set up normalization committee to manage football activities in Ghana as the GFA executive committee ceases to function.

Osei Kofi who consistently Nyantakyi’s ‘poor administration’ recounted how former Ghana FA Chief Ohene Djan appointed one Mr. Acheampong who though wasn’t a lawyer to peacefully settle a case between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

”Even a section of the rule says if a player receives two yellow cards he can’t play in the subsequent game so we don’t need lawyers or Court in our games.” he said speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Otec FM.

‘I am a qualified Coach but I have stopped coaching because I have always been criticizing the past Ghana Football Association members.

”In this case they, can appoint a bad referee to handle my games which my team will lose and then people will say I am not good so I decided to quit by job because this reason.”

He who scored two goals when the Black Stars beat Tunisia 3-2 in Tunis to win its third AFCON title however says he is ever ready to offer his service once called upon to be part government’s normalization committee to steer the affairs of football in Ghana.
