Lawyer Obiri Boahen has questioned the professional and ethical status of lawyer and undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas following the airing of a video released by Salis Newspaper in collaboration with Net 2 Television network dubbed "Who Watches the Watchman".
In the said video, investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas who doubles as a lawyer is captured in a conversation with a then state Attorney in which Anas appeared to be conniving with the state Attorney to unlawfully dismiss a case against a victim of Anas' investigations. The ace undercover journalist is heard telling the state Attorney that he was bought with $100,000 by the said defendant he investigated, who at the time was being tried at the court.
According to the video, $5,000 had also been transferred to the account of the state Attorney, and $75,000 to a then police CID boss with the view to dismissing the prosecution against the defendant Anas had investigated.
Anas, together with his investigation firm Tiger Eye PI in a statement, denied any wrongdoing, claimed ownership of the video, saying that the who watches the watchman video had been altered and made to depict a contrary message to what the " original " video communicates.
Like other members of the public, who, despite Tiger's statement believes that the video is genuine in content, lawyer Obiri Boahen has condemned the acts of Anas Aremeyaw Anas from the video, saying he acted against the ethics of the Bench.
"I feel as a lawyer, that Anas' acts are very hollow", Obiri Boahen told FOX 97.9 FM.
" He didn't act well and he didn't do well, asking for dismissal of the case which was truly done. Anas, you were commissioned by a firm to investigate a case for them, then you do the investigation and turn to stab the firm at the back, it is not fair, a lawyer we have not been trained like that, if you are a lawyer and you do that it is not good. I heard it and watched it too", lawyer Boahen said.
On the contrary, lawyer Boahen commended Anas Aremeyaw Anas for a wonderful work done by releasing the undercover work titled Number 12 that has revealed several alleged corrupt practices in Ghana football. He as well commended Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, for canvassing the publication of the video "Who Watches the Watchman", a documentary that seeks to implicate the undercover journalist Anas, who is noted for fighting corruption in the country as being corrupt himself.
" I think Anas has done well and Kennedy (Agyapong) has also done well, so it's good. Kennedy has done very well, for me am not moved by what people say about him, he has done something for my administration ", he praised .
In his view as a lawyer, Anas Aremeyaw Anas as a colleague lawyer has equally done well with his investigative work, but per the content of the "who watches the watchman" video, Anas did not act in the spirit of the ethics of the job.
"Me as a lawyer, the ethics of my profession, where in the video the state Attorney was bribed to kill the case, you have been contracted to do the investigation for the firm then you go round and kill the case, apart from the ethics of the law profession even God doesn't like that, gods don't like that, if you do that even God will curse you", layer Boahen condemned.
It must however be be noted that the said state Attorney has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing, demanding apology from Honourable Kennedy Agyapong and Salis Newspaper or face law suit, but Salis have confidently challenged the state Attorney to proceed with any law suits as they claim ownership of the video, and maintain its credibility according to their sources.
